One Dashing Eagle winning Ed Burke Million Futurity
One Dashing Eagle, ridden by Ramon Sanchez for trainer Jose De La Torre, won yesterday’s $2.4 million All American Futurity wire-to-wire by three-quarters of a length, with a time of 21.230. Sudden Thoughts was second while Aha Moment was third by three-quarters of a length.

Owned by Jose and Gustavo De La Torre with San Gregorio Racing Stables, California-based One Dashing Eagle, by One Famous Eagle, had won the 350-yard G1 Ed Burke Million by 1 1/4 lengths in his final start before heading to Ruidoso Downs, where he was the sixth-fastest qualifier to the All American Futurity in 21.369.

Odds-on favorite and fastest qualifier PJ Chick In Black finished sixth in her first defeat following five wins, including the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity.

“She warmed up really good,” said jockey Esgar Ramirez. “I thought she was on the top of her game, but she never got focused in the gate like she did in the trials. When the dirt started hitting her, she threw her head like she didn’t want to run. It wasn’t our day,”

A $43,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase bred by the Allred Brothers, One Dashing Eagle earned $1.2 million for his All American win. From 5 career starts, he has 4 wins and one second-place finish with earnings of $1,626,205.

“This pedigree with One Sweet Dash, Walk Thru Fire and all that family is a great, great pedigree,” said Jose De La Torre. “We have to thank (the late) Jerry Allred. He’s watching this. He helped us a lot.”

One Dashing Eagle is half-brother to Golden State Million winner One Sweet Jess; his dam, One Sweet Dash, by First Down Dash, is a full sister to leading sire Walk Thru Fire.

The All American Futurity is the world’s richest quarter horse race and has the highest purse of any two-year-old race in North America.
