The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale concluded its three-day, 437-lot venue on Sunday with an average price increase of 6.2 percent over 2011 figures and 33.3 percent over 2010. Although official results with withdrawals and RNAs are not yet available, the overall sale average was reported at $46,735.

In addition to the two yearlings who reached the $500,000 level, there were  three who sold for more than $400,000 each; eight for more than $300,000; 12 for more than $200,000; and 31 for more than $100,000.

The high-selling horse, Carol On My Mind, brought $520,000 from William Smith. The Corona Cartel filly, consigned by 6666 Ranch, agent, is out of First Carolina, winner of the G1 Heritage Place Futurity and dam of All American Futurity finalist Denver Pass. First Carolina, by 6666 Ranch sire Mr Jess Perry, is out of 2006 Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash, a full sister to First Down Dash.

The second-high seller at $500,000 was Wide Open Heart, the first foal out of All American Futurity winner and multiple champion Heartswideopen. The First Down Dash colt was purchased by Bobby Cox from the consignment of Julianna Hawn Holt.

Hawn Holt also consigned Spirit Leader, who sold to Abigail Kawananakoa for $425,000. Kawananakoa’s Native Tea Rose, purchased for $330,000 at the 2011 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, is a finalist in today’s $2.4 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.

Spirit Leader, by Corona Cartel, is a half-brother to champion Leading Spirit, as well as stakes winner Leading Diva.
