With a 233-point win in the National Reining Horse Association Derby last weekend, Wimpys Little Chic and Shawn Flarida became the first horse and rider team to win NRHA’s three premiere events. “She’s probably the best horse I’ve ever ridden,” said Flarida of the Wimpys Little Step daughter owned by Arcese Quarter Horses.

Flarida, who was close to an NRHA industry earnings record of $3 million before the Derby, claimed $50,000 for the championship. He also placed fourth on KR Lil Conquistador, owned by Cheree Kirkbride, and tied for tenth with Western Whiz for Sammy Ely.

Smart Spook and Flarida set an earlier milestone by winning the 2004 NRHA Open  Futurity and 2005 NRHA Open Derby – the first consecutive wins in those two competitions.
