Ryan Rapp of Weatherford, Texas and Cody Gann of Leighton, Alabama, won the Senior and Junior Youth titles, respectively, in the NYCHA Scholarship Cutting at the NCHA Metallic Cat Summer Cutting Spectacular in Fort Worth on July 15.

Rapp marked 226 on Brett and Jody McGlothlin’s Somethingtobelievein to win by two and a half points over go-round winner Case Robertson on Little Rey Whirlacat, owned by Barbara Allsup.

Rapp’s first win at the Summer Spectacular came in the Junior Scholarship Cutting back in 2015, the year he was named Junior Youth Rookie of the Year. He also won the Limited Non-Pro NCHA Derby the following year with Tuff Julie. To date, he’s earned more than $399,000 in NCHA competition.

His 2020 Scholarship mount, Somethingtobelievein, has earned more than $351,000 and has won a string of Open and Limited Non-Pro championships for Brett and Jody McGlothlin.

Case Robertson, of Dublin, Texas, won the 2017 NYCHA Senior Youth Scholarship Cutting, also riding Little Rey Whirlacat, an earner of $115,000 by Little Dulces Rey.

Cody Gann marked 223 on Hevvy Metal for a half-point win over Lily Erwin.

He also won the go-round with a 222 on the 10-year-old son of Metallic Cat out of Dual Nurse. Gann won the NYCHA World Finals last year with Hevvy Metal, as well as the NCHA Eastern Nationals Junior Youth title the past two years in a row. He has lifetime earnings of more than $13,600.

Lily Erwin showed Moonstruck Player, a 13-year-old by Lizzys Gotta Player out of Carolena Moon. She has previously been a two-time finalist at the Eastern Nationals, and in last year’s Scholarship and World Finals events, riding Playful Highbrow CD.
