Corey Cushing and CC Spin Cycle, owned by Cathy Frank, claimed $45,000 with wins in both the Open and Intermediate divisions of the National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes, which concluded on April 1, in Nampa, ID. Cushing topped the Open field with a score 656 (212, 220, 224) in his first major NRCHA win.

“I’m just on cloud nine,” Cushing said. “It’s been a good wait, but I’m glad it’s finally here.” Cushing and CC Spin Cycle, by Ray Gay Quixote, finished the preliminaries in second place, which boosted the 27-year-old trainer’s confidence.

“I had the adrenaline going, and in the cow work today, I felt like no matter what cow got turned out, I could handle it. This horse gives you that kind of confidence.”

Two and one-half points behind Cushing were Doug Williamson and Docs Soula, by Soula Jule Star, owned by D&S Quarter Horses.

Jo Anne Carollo, Atascadero, CA, won the non-pro title and $11,800 on Repeat Plan sired by her stallion A Master Plan.
