Missy Jean Oehlhof borrowed a pair of spurs from Kathy Daughn to use in the finals of the Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Saturday afternoon. Daughn’s loper advised her before the finals that these were “226 spurs.”

In fact, they were. Oehlhof marked a 226 on Shes My Other Pistol to win the Non-Pro finals. Although she guessed she has shown a dozen times in the Non-Pro class already this year, the San Antonio win marked her first weekend paycheck in the Non-Pro for 2012.

“My husband (trainer Steve Oehlhof) told me to put rock grinders on tonight,” said Oehlhof. “I had to get rubber bands and put them around my boots, but it worked great. She was awesome. That’s the best she’s ever been for me.”

Shes My Other PistolShes My Other Pistol is a 5-year-old by Playgun out of Smart Little Cartina, a full sister to Triple Crown winner Chiquita Pistol. Last fall, Oehlhof won the 4-year-old Non-Pro finals at the Southern Futurity with Shes My other Pistol.

“I didn’t get along with her because I always let her get away,” she admitted. “So we have a love-hate relationship. Tonight, as I was warming her up, I was starting to get emotional. She’s been good for us. I said, ‘no matter what happens tonight, I’m proud of you.'”

The 226 was the highest score Oehlhof has marked since she started cutting nine years ago. It’s also the score Daughn marked to lead the Open go-round on Snow Rey.
