Heath Taylor-trained Sixes Streak and Wagon To Hollywood claimed the G1 Dash For Cash Futurity and G2 Dash For Cash Derby at Lone Star Park on Saturday, October 8.

With leading rider G.R. Carter, Jr. aboard, post time favorite Sixes Streak drove past mid-stretch leaders John The Banker and Texasindependencegal, who finished second and third, to win the 400-yard Dash For Cash Futurity by a head, in 19.404, earning a speed index of 102.

“I want to thank the whole Windham team, and G.R. Carter for a great, great ride,” said Taylor. “I also want to acknowledge and dedicate this win to Jacky Martin. He helped me all summer and did a great job with this horse. I think he and G.R. are as good as any two that ever put a set of boots on.”

Jacky Martin, who rode Sixes Streak for Taylor in both the Rainbow Futurity trials and the All American Futurity trails, was paralyzed in a riding accident at Ruidoso Downs two days before the All American Futurity. Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred jockeys at tracks across the country donated part of their earnings on Saturday, October 8, toward Martin’s long-term care.

The Dash For Cash Futurity was the fifth win and first graded stakes victory in seven starts for Sixes Streak, a gelded son of Streakin Sixes, owned and bred by Jerry Windham, of College Station, Tex.

In 2008, Taylor and Carter also teamed with Stolis Winner, another Windham-owned and bred gelding, and the world’s richest Quarter runner with $2.2 million, to win the G1 All American Futurity.

Sixes Streak’s $165,619 winner’s payout increased his career earnings to $177,249.

Wagon To Hollywood unloads at 30-1 in Dash For Cash Derby
Wagon To Hollywood, bred and trained by Heath Taylor, played the spoiler in the 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby, winning by a nose in the stakes record time of 21.182, at odds of 30-1.

“He ran in a fast trial and trained super between trials and finals,” said Taylor, who trains the PYC Paint Your Wagon colt for owner Narcisco Flores. “I really can’t explain the odds. Looking at the program, I thought he was a five or six-to-one shot and had a really good chance to light the board.”

Jarrod Deschamp, who rode the gelding to place second in the G2 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs in 2010, was in the irons for Wagon To Hollywood’s third win and first graded stakes win in five starts, in 2011.

Zoomandkicken, trained by Trey Wood and ridden by Ricky Ramirez, placed second; Eyes Blew By You, was third.
