The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale concluded its three-day run on Sunday, September 4, with preliminary results showing a total sales increase of 26 percent over 2010 and an average price of $44,026, compared to $35,048 in 2010.

A Dash Of Sweet Heat, consigned by Julianna Hawn Holt, topped the sale at $650,000. The all-time record was set in 2008, when the colt First Prize Stanley, by Mr Jess Perry out of First Prize Dash, sold for $675,000

A Dash Of Sweet Heat, a bay filly, sired by Mr Jess Perry and out of Broodmare of the Year Corona Chick, was purchased by the A Dash Of Sweet Heat Partnership.

Corona Chick is the dam four stakes winners, among six earners of more than $100,000 each. Her produce includes two-time champion and All American Futurity winner Corona Cash; G1 winner and leading sire Corona Cartel; and G1 winner and leading freshman sire Valiant Hero.

The $650,000 price for A Dash Of Sweet Heat broke the Ruidoso Select Sale record for a filly that lasted just one day. Justice Down Toll SA, another daughter of Mr Jess Perry, brought $630,000 during Saturday’s session. The half-sister to G1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner One Quick First Down was consigned by Vessels Stallion Farm and Gianni Samaja and was purchased by David and Sue Mackie.

The high-selling colt of the three-day sale was Class Jump at $310,000. The Corona Cartel son was consigned by Double Bar S Ranch and purchased by William Smith. He is a full brother to champion Carters Cartel, out of champion 2-year-old filly Jumpin Tac Flash.
