The American Quarter Horse Association released its 2010 Annual Report on March 3, during the annual AQHA convention in Grapevine, Tex.

Statistics compiled by the association reveal that while the U.S. population of Quarter Horses and new registrations declined from 2009 numbers, Canadian and International populations increased.

The total U.S. Quarter Horse population of 2,694,764 reflected a decrease of 63,890 from 2009. The international population increased by 5,761 to a total of 141,601. The figures reflect elimination of all horses age 25 and over, unless the owner submitted documentation proving the horse to be still living.

There were 83,736 new U.S. registrations in 2010 – down 10,099 from 2009 numbers; there were 7,126 new international registration – down 432 from 2009.

California – 132,499
Alberta – 106,803
Missouri – 105,593

The top 5 states/provinces/countries in terms of AQHA membership were:
Texas – 41,186
California – 17,970
Oklahoma – 14,019
Colorado – 8,876
Ohio – 8,384
Germany ranked ninth with 6,780 members.
