Stolis Winner led wire-to-wire to claim a 3-length, 21.41-second victory on August 14 at Ruidoso Downs, as the fastest qualifier for the $2 million All American Futurity. The only two-time Grade 1 futurity winner in the 143-entrant All American trials, Stolis Winner has already earned more than $790,000, with Rainbow Futurity and Heritage Place Futurity victories. The 440-yard All American Futurity, on Labor Day, September 1 pays $1 million to the winner.

“The pressure grows when you get a horse like this,” said Stolis Winner’s owner and breeder, Jerry Windham, Bryan, Texas. “I’ve had some great horses, but I can say I’ve never enjoyed a horse more than this one.

“When I started breeding and owning horses in the 1970s, I wanted to breed and own an All American [Futurity] winner. This horse is the culmination of a breeding program.”

The trial win marked Stolis Winner’s fifth consecutive victory.

Windham also bred and co-owns Jess Zoomin, the second-fastest qualifier to the All American Futurity. Both Stolis Winner, a gelded son of Stoli, and Jess Zoomin, by Shazoom, are trained by Heath Taylor and were ridden in the trials by G.R. Carter. Jess Zoomin is owned by Jess Zoomin Partners, in which Windham owns a 20-percent interest.

Jess Zoomin impressed fans, when he drew out to a 4-length trial win in 21.47 from the 143 trial entrants. The Shazoom son gained national attention when he set a Remington Park track record of :17.347 for 350 yards, while winning his Heritage Place Futurity trial. He then finished a half-length behind 25 to 1 Stolis Winner in the main event.

“He really finished strong, “said Taylor of Jess Zoomin following the All American trials, the colt’s first start since the Heritage Place Futurity. “He hadn’t had a race in so long, so I was impressed with the way he finished.”

Heath Taylor also saddled Julianna Hawn Holt’s Mighty Corona, a son of First Down Dash out of champion and leading producer Corona Chick, for the ninth-fastest qualifying time.
