Metallic Cat claimed his rank as the #4 all-time leading stallion in terms of earnings today with a 222-point win in the Music City 4-Year-Old Open Futurity. This is the fourth major victory for the 2008 NCHA Open Futurity champion, ridden by Beau Galyean for Alvin Fults, Amarillo, TX.

Nurse Connie scored 221 points under Paul Hansma for Dub and Christy Leeth to earn the reserve championship. Yesterday, Hansma won the Music City 5/6-Year-Old Classic with Cats Little Tank, also owned by the Leeths.

Metallic Cat’s $19,835 winner’s share of the Music City  Futurity, along with $6,224 earned for a third-place finish at the Mebane Ranch Festival,  will boost his NCHA earnings to $554,306. The only cutting stallions to have earned more are 30-year-old Smart Little Lena with $743,275; Docs Okie Quixote (deceased) with $635,707; and 26-year-old Cash Quixote Rio with $593,460.

In addition to the NCHA Futurity, Metallic Cat and Galyean won the 2009 Abilene Spectacular and the Breeders Invitational, and earned reserve in the Tunica Futurity and the NCHA Super Stakes. They also placed third in the NCHA Derby. Two weeks ago, Alvin Fults won the non-pro division of the West Texas Futurity 5/6 division aboard Tassa Cat.

Through September 8, Beau Galyean was ranked second only to Phil Rapp for 2009 NCHA earnings.
