False Bravado, shown by his breeder, Sandy Bonelli, scored 225 points on Friday, September 13, to claim the El Rancho Open Futurity in Murieta, Calif. The win was worth $15,000. Sally Cats Meow and Gary Gonsalves took reserve with 222 points for Iron Rose Ranch, and Im Licken Checks, under Brent Erickson for Frank and Bonnie Martin, placed third with 221.5.

Not many cutting pedigrees carry the clout of False Bravado’s. His sire, High Brow CD, was 2007 NCHA Open Futurity champion and the earner of $542,101; his dam, Shakin Flo, won the 1997 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity, the first of her 18 major open and non-pro limited age event championship wins under Sandy Bonelli.

False Bravado is from the first full crop of High Brow CD, also sire of recent Cotton Stakes Futurity open champion Elsewhere and Oklahoma Early Bird Futurity open champion Waving Flag, as well as West Texas Derby non-pro champion Reyzin.

In addition to False Bravado, Shakin Flo has produced seven other NCHA money earners, including Shakin Rondee LTE $283,359; Midnight Rondeevous LTE $118,698; Flo And Tell LTE $61,479; Flo Rider LTE $35,931; and Shake Me Loose LTE $33,811.

In Mercuria World Series action during the El Rancho Futurity, Louellas Cat and Lindy Burch won the Open Finals with 227 points; with ARC Ruby Playgunia and Matt Budge as reserve with 224 points; and Gunna Getcha and Cookie Banuelos third with 223. Louellas Cat, by High Brow Cat, is owned by her breeder, Oxbow Ranch; ARC Ruby Playgunia, by Playgun, is owned by Jackpot Ranch; and Gunna Getcha, by Playgun, belongs to Theresa Gillock.

Kylie Rice won the Mercuria World Series Non-Pro Finals with 228 points aboard Dual Lights, by CD Lights; Donna Flanigan took reserve with 222 points on This Kats Kool, by WR This Cats Smart; and Kim Thome was third on TF Cee Dee Starts, by CD Olena.

The El Rancho Open Classic/Challenge was won by Ms Crystal Highbrow with 224 points under Tim Smith for Julie Whipple. Cat Belue, owned by Charles Burger, scored 221 points for reserve under Grant Setnicka, and Louellas Cat and Lindy Burch captured third with 220.5 points.
