Oh Cay Felix, winner of the 2006 NCHA Open Futurity under Craig Thompson and the NCHA Amateur Futurity for owner Patrick Collins, carried Collins for his first non-pro championship title in the Abilene Spectacular Classic, on January 13 in Abilene, TX. The 223-point win, worth $13,000, raised the gelding’s career total to just under $345,000.

Codie Green and 5-year-old Here To Reymember claimed the reserve championship with 220 points. Last fall, Green, who lives in Weatherford, TX, had ridden the Dual Rey son as non-pro champion of the 2008 Texas Futurity and non-pro reserve champion of the Music City Futurity. Green was also reserve champion of the 2005 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Ltd on Buckaroo Boon.

Patrick Collins reached his earnings limit as an amateur rider in 2008. The owner of a liquid feed manufacturing company that makes Mix30 for beef & dairy cattle, Collins, who lives with his wife Laura in Lincoln, IL, raised Oh Cay Felix, by High Brow Cat, out of the Shorty Lena daughter Oh Cay Shorty.
