Sarah Brooks of Clayton, California, was just the second rider to the herd, but she held on for the high score in the go-round for the $15,000 Amateur at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Reno, Nevada, Wednesday.

Brooks marked 216 on 20-year-old Monta Doc Amy to lead the qualifiers. It took a score of 208 or better to advance to Thursday’s finals.

Bred by Robert White, Monta Doc Amy is by Montana Doc out of Clarks Tax Refund. Monta Doc Amy’s dam is a full sister to $100,000 earner Clarks Hill Billie. Brooks and Monta Doc Amy finished fourth in the NCHA World Standings last year.

They are also entered in the $35,000 Non-Pro at the Western Nationals.

A total of 26 contestants qualified for the finals. The second highest score was Jeremy Lehrmann of Gardendale, Texas, with a 215.5 on Rey Leo Girl, by Dual Rey.
