Matthews Cutting Horses, Warsaw, NC & Weatherford, Tex, announced today their sale of 2010 NCHA Open Futurity champion One Time Royalty, for an undisclosed price, to SDM Quarter Horses of Goondiwindi, Queensland, Australia.

One Time Royalty will stand to a limited book of mares during the 2011 Australian breeding season, which commences September 1. He is currently at Select Breeders Southwest in Aubrey, Tex, to complete a 30-day quarantine, in order for his semen to be certified for export to Australia.

“This sale is really consistent with our long term breeding program strategy,” said Jeffrey Matthews, owner of One Time Royalty’s sire, One Time Pepto. “The demand (from breeders) for One Time Pepto in Australia has been significant … I think One Time Royalty will be a very viable alternative for bringing the bloodline to Australian breeders.”

Susan Marchant, owner of SDM Quarter Horses, intends for Lloyd Cox to continue showing One Time Royalty in the U.S., for at least the remainder of the 2011 season, and Matthews Cutting Horses will breed some of their own mares to the stallion in 2012.

One Time Royalty, who set an all-time NCHA Futurity record with his 230-point win under Lloyd Cox, is from the first foal crop of One Time Pepto, who also set an NCHA Futurity record in 2010, as sire of both the Open and Non-Pro champions.

Dual Rey, one of cutting’s leading sires, set the standard in Australia in 2008, when his first Australian-bred crop of nine foals earned six championship or reserve titles and placed in nine finals. Last year, his full brother, Rey Dual, was shipped to stand in Australia.

One Time Royalty joins a roster of six AQHA sires (imported, as well as USA-based) available at SDM Quarter Horses.
