Roy Huffaker, who rode 1969 NCHA World Champion Jose Uno, passed away Friday, March 14, at his home in Kerrville, Texas. He won his first cutting horse competition in 1955.

When John Bradford bought Jose Uno in 1968 for a reported five-figure price, Huffaker became the rider of the horse and consistently finished near the top at the major shows, finishing the year ranked seventh in the NCHA standings. In 1969, they won at Chicago, San Antonio, and Odessa, and picked up checks in 55 shows to earn $16,621 as NCHA World Champion, with Jose Uno earning a place in the NCHA Hall of Fame.

Roy later owned Roy Huffaker Enterprises where, with his son, David, he designed and manufactured horse blankets. After retiring, he became an avid campfire cook
