Six years ago, Chad Bushaw purchased a colt from Scott Ferguson shortly before the NCHA Futurity to show in the Non-Pro. The colt was Jerryoes, who carried Bushaw for the championship title.

Two weeks ago, Philip Layne purchased Dual Ya Scoot from Chad Bushaw. Last week, Layne earned an aggregate score of 430 points on the Smart Lil Scoot son — the second-highest total from the go-rounds.

Last night, Layne, a 17-year-old home-schooled senior, won the Non-Pro Limited with 220 points. Justin Cunningham claimed reserve with 216.5 points on Joys Indian Pep, by Hickorys Indian Pep; Mike East was a close third with 216 aboard Mecom Blue Voodoo, by Mecom Blue.

“He seems like an old horse and that I can hold anything on him,” said Layne, of Dual Ya Scoot, who was put to the test by his second cow.

Layne learned to cut in Utah with trainer Lawson Hadlock and moved to Weatherford, TX this year with his mother to be closer to the cutting action.

Dual Ya Scoot was trained by Ken Mock.
