Grays Starlight, who died in 2002 at 18 years of age, was added to the list of National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Million Dollar Sires on May 4. The cutting-bred NCHA earner of $41,128, by Peppy San Badger out of Doc’s Starlight, also ranks among the all-time Top 15 cutting horse sires with offspring earnings of more than $10 million, and is the only stallion to have achieved such a status in both cutting and reining.

Grays Starlight’s top reining money earners include Starlights Wrangler, $125,966; Hit The Lights, $112,925; and Smart Starbuck, $60,045. His first cutting super star was Spooks Doc, co-reserve champion of the 1992 NCHA Non-Pro Super Stakes Classic and earner of more than $90,000. But his brightest star was Stella Starlight, winner of the 2000 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity with Lach Perks and earner of nearly $300,000.

Grays Starlight was bred by Harold “Spook Stream, ” Lake Charles, LA, former husband of country western star Lynn Anderson, and owned by Polo Ranch, Marietta, OK at the time of his death. His dam, Doc’s Starlight, by Doc Bar out of Tasa Tivio, by Poco Tivio, was 1978 NCHA Reserve World Champion under John Carter. Doc’s Starlight produced eight foals, including Grays Starlight’s full siblings Gallo del Cielo, an NRCHA Million Dollar Sire; Bunnys Starlight, NCHA earner of $63,000; and Paddys Irish Whiskey, who currently stands at the historic Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, TX.
