Bama Jelly and Austin Shepard scored 228 to win the Open championship of the Southern Futurity 5/6-year-old Classic on October 26, in Jackson, Miss. Shepard also claimed the reserve championship with 225 points on Dual Reyish, while High Brow Lady Boon, shown by Matt Miller, and Rollz Royce ridden by Beau Galyean, tied for third.

Owned and bred by Madalyn Colgrove, Boligee, Ala., 5-year-old Bama Jelly LTE $196,636 is by Bamacat and out of the Nitas Wood daughter Wood She Be Neat, whose first money earners are Bama Jelly and 5-year-old Neat Lil High Brow LTE $14,163.

Bama Jelly, a 2018 NCHA Futurity and 2019 NCHA Super Stakes Open finalist, won the 4-year-old Open at Arbuckle Mountain and Augusta last year and the NCHA Eastern Nationals Open championship this year.

Six-year-old Hottish son Dual Reyish LTE $430,281, the 2017 NCHA Futurity Open champion, is owned by Billy Wolf of Whitesboro, Tex., and was bred by Greg Smith out of the Dual Rey daughter A Little Reylena LTE $126,058.  A Little Reylena is the producer of 10 earners of $962,074, including Hay U LTE $200,245; Rey To Sly LTE $103,208; Lotterey Ticket LTE $58,588; A Little Royal Rey LTE $51,822; and Sugar Railena LTE $51,792.

In addition to the NCHA Futurity, Dual Reyish won the 2018 Breeders Invitational Open Futurity, and the 2020 Augusta Futurity and Cotton Stakes Open Classics.

Austin Shepard, a leading NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $8,372,313, also claimed the 2013 and 2000 Southern Futurity Classic championships on Divas On Time and Dual Kual, respectively, as well as the Southern Futurity 4-Year-Old championship four times – on Sir Long Legs in 2017; Kula Lil Wendy in 2016; Cats In Ya Dreams in 2011; and Widows Intentions in 2004.

High Brow Lady Boon LTE $57,053, a 5-year-old mare by High Brow Cat out of RBR Lady Boon LTE $87,550, is owned and was bred by Texas Holy Cow Performance Horses, Santa Ynez, Calif. She is RBR Lady Boon’s first NCHA money earner.

Matt Miller, the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $3,767,114, also placed eleventh in the 2020 Southern Classic on Im Countin On Annie LTE $62,047, owned by Texas Holy Cow Performance Horses.

Six-year-old Rollz Royce LTE $339,164 is owned by Thomas Guinn of Philadelphia, Miss. The Dual Smart Rey son was bred by Royce Stalcup out of Show Biz Kitty, the producer of four earners of $936,874, including Badboonarising LTE $318,279, SS Blacks Lil Kitty LTE $187,137, and Show Biz Kit Kat LTE $92,293.

Rollz Royce and Beau Galyean won the 4-Year-Old Southern Futurity in 2018, and have claimed wins this year in the 5/6-year-old Cattlemen’s Derby and Ike Hamilton Futurity.

Galyean, who won the 2019 Southern Futurity Classic on Desiresomemetallic, is the NCHA Hall of Fame earner of $4,358,169.
