No one would have bet against Brent Erickson in the 2019 NCHA Kit Kat Sugar Super Stakes Classic Open Limited Finals. Not only did the Wilton, California trainer qualify three horses for the 11-horse field, but one of them was Reyefied LTE $64,803, who carried Erickson as champion of last year’s Super Stakes Classic Limited Finals.

It was This Bentleys Hot, however, who claimed the 2019 title for Erickson, with a 220-point run, as the first horse to work. Constantine Caloudas, Brenham, Texas, and WR This Cats Smooth LTE $10,534 scored 219.5 points to earn the reserve championship; while Eric Magby, Wilburton, Okla., and One Sneaky Bluegrass LTE $77,981 placed third with 217 points.

This Bentleys Hot, by Hottish, is owned by Dacole Investment Company, Reno, Nevada and was bred by Jeff Barnes, Wilton, Calif. The 5-year-old gelding earned his biggest payout in 2017, as an Open semi-finalist with Erickson, in the NCHA Futurity. Jeff Barnes is also the breeder and owner of Super Stakes Classic Open Limited finalist Open Princess Pandora Cat LTE $23,069, who Erickson showed to place seventh with 214 points; while Dacole Investments also owns Reyefied, who scored 213.5 points with Erickson to place eighth.

Five-year-old WR This Cats Smooth, by WR This Cats Smart, is owned by Chestnut Ridge Int. Inc., Brenham, Tex., and was bred by Carlos Verdecia out of Foxs Molly Brown, dam of four NCHA earners of $106,656, including WR This Cats Smooth’s full sibling WR This Cats A Lena LTE $76,326. Caloudas, the NCHA earner of $516,355, showed WR This Cats Smooth to earn her first limited age event check, as a 4-year-old Open Limited finalist in the 2018 Non-Pro Cutting.

One Sneaky Bluegrass is the only Super Stakes Classic Open Limited finalist who also qualified for the Super Stakes Open Finals. The 6-year-old Bluegrass Cat gelding, owned by Browne Enterprises LLP, Wilburton, Okla., and bred by Browne’s Bar XL Ranch, has been shown exclusively in limited age events by Eric Magby. Together, One Sneaky Bluegrass and Magby, the NCHA earner of $180,943, have earned $77,981, including as winners of four limited age event finals, including the 2016 Waco Texas 3-Year-Old Futurity; the 2017 Cotton Stakes and Brazos Bash, and the 2018 Abilene Spectacular.
