Friday, October 13, the first day of the 2017 NRCHA Futurity Sales, proved a lucky day for buyers and sellers, as 88% of sales were completed in Session I of the Select Yearling and Broodmare Sale. Session II begins on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The sales are being held this year, for the first time, in Will Rogers Equestrian Center, Fort Worth, and produced by Western Bloodstock, Ltd., the leader in Western performance horse sales.

Shiine, at $90,000, was the day’s high seller, in the Select Two-Year-Old Sale. The buckskin son of One Time Pepto, was consigned by John and Melanie Lowrance, in training with Hunter Meinzer, and purchased by Alison Bendale. Shiine’s dam is a Shining Spark daughter and AQHA cow horse point earner, whose oldest foal is a 3-year-old by CD Lights.

Short On Sugar 016, a buckskin colt sired by Kit Kat Sugar, topped Session I of the Select Yearling and Broodmare Sale at $44,000. A three-quarter brother to Short Drive, NCHA earner of $87,718, as well as half-brother to the dam of Pounce, NCHA earner of $239,776, Short On Sugar 016 was consigned by Shadow Oak Ranch and purchased by Chelsea Barney, Oakdale, Calif.
