Eight Mile at $400,000

Western Bloodstock Ltd. launched its 2014 NCHA Futurity Sales with an all-time record Two-Year-Old Sale on Monday, December 8 at Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Tex., where 122 horses sold for an average of $32,580 with total sales of just under $4 million.

Eight Mile, by Metallic Cat, was the high seller at $400,000, followed by Ichis My Choice, by Cat Ichi, at $300,000, and Moses Man, by Metallic Cat, at $210,000.

The top five sellers averaged $232,000, while the top 10 averaged $157,1000, and the top 20 brought an average of $109,000.

“This was a fantastic sale,” said Jeremy Barwick, owner of Western Bloodstock Ltd. “We had so much interest coming into the Futurity that we anticipated sales were going to be good, but this was better than we ever dreamed.”

The 2013 Futurity Sales, where the highest price from all sales combined was $210,000 and averaged $21,323 overall, was just shy of the all-time record of $21,370, set in 2006. This year’s sale, which continues on Tuesday, November 9 with the Select Yearling Sale, is on course to blow past the 2006 mark.

Daniel and Nancy Burkes, new owners of Eight Mile

Eight Mile, a flashy chestnut colt in training with Hunter Meinzer, was consigned by his breeder, Crown Ranch, LP/Chad Bushaw, Weatherford, Tex., and purchased by Daniel Burkes, Hibbing, Minn. Eight Mile is out of Cappuccino And Pasta LTE $155,522 and half-brother to the earners of $475,800, including Mocha Cappuccino LTE $223,318 and Frappuccino N Pasta LTE $105,472.

Crown Ranch, with a total of 14 consignments to the 2014 NCHA Futurity Sales, also has a red roan yearling full sister to Eight Mile, Cattuccino, consigned to Tuesday’s Select Yearling Sale, and 6-year-old Bet On A Cat, current earner of $313,469, consigned to the NCHA Futurity Cutting Horse Sale on Saturday, December 13, preceding the NCHA Futurity Open Finals.

Ichis My Choice, a bay filly consigned by Todd Nelson and in training with Richard Jordan, was purchased by Constance Jaeggi, Weatherford, Tex., who showed Saguaro Ichi, also by Cat Ichi, this past week at the NCHA World Championship Finals to clinch her title as 2014 NCHA Non-Pro World Champion.

Mosses Man, a sorrel colt sired by Metallic Cat, sold in training with Hayden Upton, his consignor, and was purchased by Bobby and Dottie Hill, Glen Rose, Tex.

On Tuesday morning, December 9, the first ever NCHA Futurity Select Cow Dog Sale saw all four consignments sell, following a demonstration of their skills. Ruby, a 3-year-old intact female consigned by Ross Bryant, brought $13,250; Snow, a 4-year-old neutered male consigned by Roy Cox, sold for $10,250; Diablo, a 2-year-old male consigned by Upton and Carr brought, brought $,9250; and Rex, a 4-year-old male consigned by Kevin Radford, sold for $5,000.
