Peppers Pride, who holds the Thoroughbred record of 19 consecutive wins, has been retired from racing and will be bred to Tiznow, the leading Thoroughbred sire by earnings in 2008.

A 6-year-old daughter of Desert God, New Mexico-bred Peppers Pride raced strictly in the “Land of Enchantment” for owner/breeder Joe Allen, of Abilene, TX. She retired after four seasons of racing, all under trainer Joel Marr, with earnings of $1,066,085.

Peppers Pride equaled the previous record of 16 wins shared by Citation, Cigar, Mister Frisky, and Hallowed Dreams, when she won the Russell and Helen Foutz Distaff Handicap at SunRay Park in April 2008. Her record-breaking 17th win came in an optional claiming race at Zia Park on October 4.

Tiznow, 2000 Horse of the Year and Champion 3-Year-Old, is the only runner in the history of the Breeders’ Cup to win the Classic twice. He retired with earnings of $6,427,830 and stands for a fee of $75,000 at WinStar Farm, Versailles, KY.

Peppers Pride is the last foal from Lady Pepper, by Chili Pepper Pie. Her sire, Desert God, also owned by Joe Allen, in partnership with his brother Ron, stands in 2009 at A and A Ranch, Anthony, NM, for $6,000.

Unraced Desert God is by Fappiano, sire of Kentucky Derby winner and sire Unbridled. Eighteen-year-old Desert God is also half-brother to Better Than Honour, dam of back-to-back Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags to Riches. Rags To Riches was the first filly in more than 100 years to win the Belmont Stakes.
