Austin Shepard marked 220 on One Catty Cupid to lead the first day of the 2016 Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Classic on Good Friday. The 5-year-old One Time Pepto mare is owned by Joel and Jayne Colgrove of Boligee, Alabama.

Three horses tied for the day’s second highest score at 219. They were Cat Sheree, by High Brow CD, ridden by Sean Flynn for Plantation Farms; Spookys Catchin Reys, by Dual Rey, ridden by Gary Gonsalves for Jeff and Kay Barnes; and TF High Chex CD, by High Brow CD, ridden by Morgan Cromer for Travelers Farm.

One Catty Cupid was bred by Arcese Quarter Horses out of Arc Catty Dual, a $168,000 earner that Phil Rapp rode to win the 2007 Pacific Coast Futurity.

Joel Colgrove won the Unlimited Amateur championship at the 2015 NCHA Futurity on One Catty Cupid. Austin Shepard went on to win the Cotton Stakes and take the reserve championship at the Augusta Futurity on her. Most recently, Shepard placed third on the mare in the $5,000 Novice at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Eastern National Championships.

The first round of the Super Stakes Classic continues Saturday.
