Constance Jaeggi, a Texas Christian University student from Switzerland, drew up first and third in the first set of the XTO Energy NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro finals and served up a 220-point winning ride on her second mount, Dual R Smokin.

“I didn’t do well on my first horse, so I was mad at myself when I went in on the second one,” said Jaeggi.

“It was a tough situation, but I got over it and focused on my second horse and it went well.”

Jaeggi was among the first go-round leaders on Dual R Smokin    (217) and Kool Arista Cat (216) and marked the second-highest score of the second go-round (218.5) on Kool Arista Cat.

“I’ve just gotten back on him after a year,” said Jaeggi of 6-year-old stallion Dual R Smokin, who her mentor, Chubby Turner, showed in 2010 to win the El Rancho NCHA World Series and take reserve in the NCHA World Series Battle in the Saddle.

Jaeggi’s father, Daniel, purchased Dual R Smokin from Black Rock Ranch, where Grant Setnika had shown him in six major events, including the 2010 NCHA Super Stakes Classic.

This was the first limited age event win for Jaeggi, who earned her first limited age event money in 2009, when she was amateur reserve champion of the NCHA Classic Challenge and the Brazos Bash on Starcat Merada and Explicit Lyrics, respectively.

While living in Texas, Jaeggi enjoys visits from friends and family. Her brother, Benjamin, 18, will be here this summer to show, and yesterday, her mother, Francesca, was on hand to cheer for her in the finals.

Kaitlyn Larsen made the most of her draw as the last to work in the second set of the finals with a 219.5 performance and the reserve championship.

“I was nervous being last, but I was so happy just to be there,” said Larsen, who rode Laredo Montana, owned by her father, Billy Martin, and sired by Martin’s stallion, Light N Lena.

“I was definitely shooting for first,” said Larsen, who showed full throttle.

“He was ten times better than the cows were and that’s all that I could ask. He was as good as he could be and he made them good.”

Billy Martin won the 2009 NCHA Derby Non-Pro and Senior Non-Pro aboard Larado Montana, who was trained by Sean Flynn, Larsen hopped on the gelding for the first time this year and made  the finals of the 2011 Bonanza Non-Pro and Non-Pro Gelding divisions.

She is currently ranked fifth with Laredo Montana in the NCHA World Championship Non-Pro standings.
