Hat trick for Arc Ruby Playgunia

Saturday, November 9th, 2013
Matt Budge

Matt Budge.

Matt Budge marked a 227 on Jackpot Ranch’s Arc Ruby Playgunia to win the Open finals of the Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting at the American Royal Show in Kansas City on Friday.

The win comes hot on the heels of his World Series victory at the Quarter Horse Congress. And along with a win at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo earlier in the year, Budge and Arc Ruby Playgunia have completed a World Series hat trick in 2013.

Only one other Open horse, Dont Look Twice with eight, has ever won more than two World Series of Cutting events.

Arc Ruby Playgunia was bred by Arcese Quarter Horses by Playgun out of Ruby Bagonia, a six-figure earner that is out of $1.5 million producer Playboys Ruby.

The 7-year-old mare has earned over $180,000 now and is sitting in a solid third place in the 2013 Open World Standings, behind One Time Choice and Mississippi Cat.

One Time Choice, ridden by Chubby Turner for J Five Horse Ranch, marked 22.5 for second at the American Royal.

In the Non-Pro division, 25-year-old Julie Jarma notched up her first Mercuria World Series win with a 222 on SS Blacks Lil Kitty. Constance Jaeggi placed second with a 214 on Montanas Cougar.

SS Blacks Lil Kitty was bred by Starkey Smith by Blue Bayou Boon out of Show Biz Kitty, a daughter of World Champion Show Biz Sandy. Jarma won the Brazos Bash Non-Pro Classic and the Pacific Coast Limited Non-Pro on the mare last year. The 7-year-old mare has earned more than $85,000 with her Kansas City paycheck.
