Ethell (Metallic Cat x Junie Wood) brought the top price of $200,000 from Greystone Ranch, Devlyn and John Lowrance, at Western Bloodstock’s Slate River Ranch Broodmare and Yearling Sale on October 6.

The 2023 ­Slate River Ranch Broodmare and Yearling Sale, held at the Weatherford, Texas ranch on October 6th, posted an average of $34,553 on 38 horses, signaling a strong market for major upcoming fall sales. The sale offered live internet bidding via and also introduced the $50,000 Slate River Ranch Incentive for all yearlings purchased at the October 6th sale.

Ethell, a daughter of Slate River Ranch’s leading money earner and NCHA Open  Horse of the Year Junie Wood (LTE $526,845), was the sale high-seller at $200,000. Purchased by Greystone Ranch, Devlyn and John Lowrance, Weatherford, Tex., the 7-year-old daughter of Metallic Cat and earner of $20,208, sold bred to Countin Hot Checks.

Play Miss (LTE $180,165), at $180,000, the second-highest seller, with an embryo by Stevie Rey Von, was purchased by West Coast Cutting Horses, Suzy Rodoni Silverberg, Soquel, Calif. Sired by Playgun and out of a Smart Little Lena daughter, 20-year-old Play Miss has produced earners of $958,116.

Other top sellers include Thatz All Folks, bred to Metallic Rebel and purchased for $97,000 by Paula Wood, Dublin, Tex. Sired by Boon Too Suen, 9-year-old Thatz All Folks (LTE $43,289) is out of High Brow Cat daughter That Catomine (LTE $125,319), the dam of earners of $1,125,959, including Duramax Dually (LTE $518,633), by Dual Rey.

Eight-year-old Kit Katnlizzie was purchased for $70,000 by Cole Tachdjian, Orange, Calif. The Kit Kat Sugar daughter is out of Stylish Lizzie (LTE $90,697), the dam of earners of $146,484 and full sister to Moms Stylish Player (LTE $431,682), who is out of Moms Stylish Babe, dam of the earners of $1,473,469. Kit Katnlizzie, whose oldest foal is a 3-year-old by Metallic Rey Mink, sold bred to Metallic Rebel.

Miss Abbies Cat, an 11-year-old daughter of High Brow Cat, sold for $68,000 to Warwick Screen, Owens Gap, NSW. Bred to Boon Too Suen and dam of one money earner, Miss Abbies Cat, is out of Play Miss (LTE $180,165).

Metallic Tuff, a 12-year-old Metallic Cat daughter bred to Kit Kat Sugar, sold for $65,000 to Rhen Richard – A/C Racing and Roping, Roosevelt, Utah. A half-sister to Junie Wood (LTE $526,845), Metallic Tuff is the dam of 5-year-old Fingers In The Reins ($120,422), by Dont Stopp Believin.
