Inseperable daylights field in Rainbow Derby

Inseperable gave leading Quarter Horse trainer Paul Jones his third G1 Rainbow Derby win in four years with a 1 3/4-length victory today at Ruidoso Downs.

“Normally he breaks really well, but today he just blew away from the gate,” said rider Cody Jensen of the Separatist son, who covered 440 yards in 21.362, after being sent off at odds of 8-1. Jensen also rode Jones-trained Strawkins in the 2006 Rainbow Derby in a track record time of :20.736.

Inseperable is owned by the same Weatherford, OK partnership that owns 2007 Rainbow Derby winner Separate Bet, currently ranked number one older horse (age three and up) in the nation by the American Quarter Horse Association. Separate Bet is also trained by Paul Jones.

“He really stepped up and ran a big race,” said Jones of Inseperable. “In his trial, he false broke and hit the front of the gate. I thought he would run an improved race in the Derby, but I thought that Time For A Cigar  would be tough.”

Time For A Cigar and Shaboomator, the one-two finishers in the G1 Ruidoso Derby, finished second and third in the Rainbow Derby. They are both owned by Mark Allen’s Double Eagle Ranch in Roswell, NM, and trained by Tony Sedillo. Allen also co-owns 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.

This was the third win from nine starts and first stakes victory for Inseperable, a $20,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. He qualified for the $480,867 Rainbow Derby with a close second-place finish behind Shaboomator.

The complete Rainbow Derby finish is Inseperable, Time For A Cigar, Shaboomator, Kool Cade, Calif Fugitive, Pepper Perry, Jess Significant, Winners Version, Royal Proclamation and Misty Blue Mercedes.
