Langston Pattillo, St. Elmo, Ill., winner of the Classic Challenge Amateur Finals on Thursday, came back Friday morning on his 5-year-old gelding High Stylin CD, to take the Classic Challenge Rios of Mercedes Amateur Unlimited championship.

Three riders tied for reserve with scores of 218 points: Carol Ward, Rancho Murieta, Calif., on Lil Lou Rey; Danny Jones, Alberta, Can., on Play Miss Boonsmal; and Janet Trefethen, Napa, Calif., aboard Hissylicious.

Before coming to the 2018 NCHA/Metallic Cat Summer Spectacular, Pattillo and High Stylin CD LTE $82,429, by High Brow CD, had already won the 2018 Breeders Invitational Amateur Classic and the 2018 Bonanza Amateur Classic, as well as the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro Limited and the Abilene Spectacular Classic Amateur Unlimited. In addition, Pattillo also qualified with Dualin Smooth Legacy for the Unlimited Amateur Finals. It was 5-year-old Dualin Smooth Legacy LTE $40,817, by Smooth As A Cat, that carried him to the championship of the 2018 PCCHA Derby Amateur Classic and co-championship of the  2018 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Classic.

Sixteen-year-old Langston Pattillo is the NCHA earner of more than $140,561.

Carol Ward, Rancho Murieta, Calif., is the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $909,290. Last Sunday, she tied for the reserve championship of the NCHA Classic Challenge Non-Pro riding 5-year-old Crafty With Cows LTE $299,986, who she also showed to win the  2017 NCHA Derby Amateur Unlimited championship.

Her 2018 Classic Challenge Amateur Unlimited mount, 6-year-old Lil Lou Rey LTE $55,844, by Dual Rey, has carried her as a working finalist in six major events, including as reserve champion of the 2015 NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited. Ward was champion of the 2002 Abilene Spectacular Amateur on Miss Haulin Hickory, the dam of Crafty With Cows, as well as of Lil Dulce Lu LTE $224,621, who is the dam of Lil Lou Rey.

Danny Jones, the NCHA earner of $532,657, showed 6-year-old Play Miss Boonsmal LTE $176,961, to place third in the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic. The pair also won the Cattlemen’s Derby Classic Amateur Unlimited, placed third in the Abilene Spectacular Classic Amateur Unlimited, and sixth in the Breeders Invitational Classic Amateur Unlimited. Play Miss Boonsmal, by Peptoboonsmal, also placed third this year in the Breeders Invitational Open with Eddie Flynn, who scored reserve championships on her in the 2017 Breeders Invitational Classic Open and the 2017 Brazos Bash Classic Open.

Janet Trefethen, the NCHA earner of $454,605, also showed Hissylicious LTE 15,280, by Halreycious, earlier this year as a finalist in the Breeders Invitation Classic Amateur Unlimited. Jamie Beamer showed the mare as a 2016 NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finalist, while Trefethen rode her as a Futurity Amateur Unlimited Semi-Finalist. In 2017, Trefethen showed Heavy Metal Playgirl, by Metallic Cat, as a finalist in the NCHA Futurity Amateur Unlimited.
