{"id":9347,"date":"2012-07-29T11:46:43","date_gmt":"2012-07-29T16:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=9347"},"modified":"2012-07-29T11:46:43","modified_gmt":"2012-07-29T16:46:43","slug":"hottish-hottest-with-228-in-ncha-derby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=9347","title":{"rendered":"Hottish hottest with 228 in NCHA Derby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure id=\"attachment_9351\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9351\" style=\"width: 285px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/hottish-lloyd-cox-20120728m.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/hottish-lloyd-cox-20120728m.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"hottish lloyd cox 20120728m\" width=\"285\" height=\"252\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9351\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Alan Gold<\/figcaption><\/figure>Nothing is perfect in life or the cutting horse world, but Hottish and Lloyd Cox came within a whisker of every rider\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s dream of the perfect run on Saturday night, at the NCHA Derby in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p>Their 228-point score was half-a-point under the Derby record set by Third Cutting and Boyd Rice in 2009, and it tied the score of Triple Crown champion Chiquita Pistol in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Cox already holds the NCHA Futurity record with his 230-point win aboard One Time Royalty in the 2010 NCHA Futurity.<\/p>\n<p>But scores in the stratosphere of cutting are relative.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If he starts doing any more, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m going to have to get somebody else to ride him,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Cox, with  smile and a nod to Hottish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s smooth and polished control of whatever is dealt him.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Some horses stop that hard, but you aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t sure if they will be able to handle it,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Cox. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153But the harder he stops, the better he gets.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Owner Dustin Adams, Dublin, Tex., won the NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro with Hottish, after Cox and the colt struck out in the second go-round and Adams bought a non-pro slot.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, Adams was a finalist in the NCHA Derby Non-Pro with two mounts: Smooth Sneakin (8\/10) and Cats Ridin Dirty (16th).<\/p>\n<p>Hottish, by Spots Hot, is the fifth foal out of Stylish Play Lena to earn $100,000 or more. Stylish Play Lena earned $264,474 under Cox; Hottish has unofficial NCHA earnings of $185,000.<\/p>\n<p>Spoonfulla Cat, by Hes A Peptospoonful, scored 223 points with Jonathan Rogers for the NCHA Derby reserve title. Rogers also placed (12\/13) on Little Kitty Sista. Both horses are owned by Robert and Carrie Tiemann, Pflugerville, Tex.<br \/>\nBet on Bushaw<\/p>\n<p>Chad Bushaw and iron horse Bet On A Cat won the NCHA Derby Non-Pro with 222 points, in the lost hole of the first set of the finals.<\/p>\n<p>One set later, Bet On A Cat scored 219 points under Tom Dvorak to place fifth in one of the toughest Derby Open finals in recent memory.
