Julie Hansma scored dual 222-point wins this week during the Southern Futurity in Jackson, MS, riding full brothers sired by Dual Pep out of Capoo by CD Olena. Four-year-old Al Poocino earned Hansma the non-pro championship of the Southern Derby<\/a>, while 6-year-old Bob Dualin carried her for the Classic<\/a> win. Dustin Adams placed as Southern Derby Non-Pro reserve champion with 217 points on Masqeurey; Barbara Brooks and Nurse Nellie claimed reserve in the Classic with 218 points.<\/p>\n

Hansma and husband Paul, top 10 trainer and manager of Bar H Ranche, home of Dual Pep and CD Olena, raised Al Poocino and Bob Dualin, whose third dam, Super Poo, was Paul’s reined cowhorse before he turned to cutting. Super Poo’s sire, Pima Country, was a race winner sired by Parker’s Trouble, at one time a leading sire of race ROM. Her dam’s sire, Tinky Poo, was also a race winner with race winning offspring.<\/p>\n

Super Poo’s daughter and the dam of Capoo is Hicapoo, 1994 NCHA Horse of the Year and lifetime earner of $447,712.<\/p>\n

“Super Poo doesn’t have any of the popular cutting breeding,” said Julie, a member of the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame. “They bought her mother as a yearling and that was Paul’s start – he showed her in the snaffle bit events. He had her on the family farm in Canada and her babies were always special to us because that’s where we started.”<\/p>\n

Bob Dualin, who has earned $173,669 and began his career by placing sixth in the NCHA Futurity Non-Pro, carried Hansma as reserve non-pro champion of the Tunica Futurity Classic this year. Al Poocino, a 2007 NCHA Futurity finalist under Hansma’s brother, Tom Dvorak, has career earnings of $66,949.<\/p>\n

Hansma also placed as a finalist (9\/11) in the Southern Classic on Reytheon; Barbara Brooks also placed (12\/13) in the Southern Derby on Lil Cat About Town.<\/p>\n
