{"id":7539,"date":"2011-05-14T21:50:16","date_gmt":"2011-05-15T02:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=7539"},"modified":"2011-05-14T22:07:18","modified_gmt":"2011-05-15T03:07:18","slug":"tulsa-horse-events-cancelled-in-precautionary-measure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=7539","title":{"rendered":"Tulsa horse events cancelled in precautionary measure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a precautionary move to ensure the health and safety of horses, the Breeder&#8217;s Invitational board of directors has cancelled their Breeder&#8217;s Invitational cutting event in Tulsa, Okla., from May 14-28, and the National Cutting Horse Association has also cancelled the Mercuria World Series of Cutting this weekend in Tulsa.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made on Saturday evening, May 14, and was based on confirmed cases of equine herpes virus (EVH-1) in two horses that had competed at the NCHA Western National Championships, in Ogden, Utah, from April 29 through May 8.<\/p>\n<p>While none of the horses in Tulsa for the Breeder&#8217;s Invitational or the NCHA World Series of Cutting have exhibited clinical signs of EHV-1, the governing bodies of the events made the decision to cancel the shows, in order to ensure the maximum health and safety of the entrants.<\/p>\n<p>A draft of a press release from the Colorado Department of Agriculture on the reported EHV cases can be viewed by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nchacutting.com\/western\/CDA_Press_Release.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For further information, you can contact Colorado State Veterinarian Keith Roehr, DVM at (303\/239-4166- office or 303\/886-6995 or Utah State Veterinarian Bruce King, DVM at (801\/520-4309.
