One Time Royalty\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s score put him among the top 14 horses of the day, but it was Sly Playgirl, ridden by Jaime Snider in the seventh set that set the bar with 219.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nice to get that over with,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Snider, who drew fourth to work on the That Sly Cat daughter, owned by Robert Borick.<\/p>\n<p>Snider purchased Sly Playgirl last May from Slate River Ranch, the owner of her sire and her dam, Taquitas Playgirl. Ashley Snider, Jaime\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s wife, had won the 2009 NCHA Futurity Limited Non-Pro aboard Bobs A Player, a half-brother, by Bobs Freckle, to Sly Playgirl and the only other performer out of Taquitas Playgirl.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a lot like her brother in that when they come to town, they kind of ante up,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Snider. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153But she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a little stronger.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Snider is also showing Sly Chance, sired by That Sly Cat, on Wednesday. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re the only two (That Sly Cat offspring) that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve ridden and I like them both,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We bought the other one as a yearling and have owned him the whole time. He had to have colic surgery this summer, but hopefully he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be ready.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<h3>Woodys Wildest Cat<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6132\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6132\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/simpkins_darren.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6132 \" title=\"Darren Simpkins\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/simpkins_darren.jpg\" alt=\"Darren Simpkins\" width=\"160\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6132\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Darren Simpkins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Darren Simpkins wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t rattled with his draw on Woodys Wildest Cat, the last horse in the third set.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The first go-round of the Futurity there are generally a lot of scratches and extra cattle left,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Simpkins, who scored 219 points in a set where five horses lost cattle.<\/p>\n<p>Simpkins is showing Woodys Wildest Cat, by High Brow Cat, as catch-rider for Clint Allen, who trained the horse for Rick Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Cinder Lakes Ranch, Valley View, TX.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153All the credit goes to Clint,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Simpkins. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I just had to show up with my chaps and jump on.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been one of my top three horses all along,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Allen, who tied for ninth place in the 2009 NCHA Futurity aboard Jerry and Vickie Durant\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s colt Stilish Rey.<\/p>\n<p>Woodys Wildest Cat, who was gelded this past summer, is out of Miss Echo Wood and a full brother to Miss Woody Two Shoes and Wild Haired Cat, each of whom earned more than $135,000; and three-quarter brother to Little Belly Dancer ,with over $90,000.<\/p>\n<p>Simpkins, who placed third in the 2007 NCHA Futurity aboard June Bug Dually, will become resident trainer and manager of Glade Knight\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Slate River Ranch in January, as John Mitchell, who held the position for 14 years, ventures out on his own.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I chose to go and test myself,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mitchell. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153But it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s like leaving Dad \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Glade is like my other dad.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, it was Simpkins who introduced Mitchell, a fellow native Australian, to Richmond, Virginia-based businessman Knight.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Fifteen years ago, Glade wanted to hire me, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d just started my own business and wanted to pursue that,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Simpkins. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153So I recommended John and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been an incredible relationship that they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153When John decided to start a new venture, Glade came to me and said, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWell, I tried to hire you fifteen years ago and you wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t come to work for me. I want to try one more time.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am really looking forward to the move.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mitchell, who will continue to show some horses for Knight, scored 216 points yesterday on Slate River-bred and owned Bunnies Boon, by Mr Boonsmal To You, who stands at Slate River, along with That Sly Cat.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153That was a great horse, but he tore a hind suspensory,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mitchell of Mr Boonsmal To You. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I asked Glade to keep him and let me breed some mares to him and he went with me. This is his second crop and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got three good horses in the Futurity this year.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<h3>Peptos Sand Dancer<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6133\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/mitchell_brad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6133 \" title=\"Brad Mitchell\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/mitchell_brad.jpg\" alt=\"Brad Mitchell\" width=\"160\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brad Mitchell<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Peptos Sand Dancer and Brad Mitchell scored 219 points deep in yesterday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fourth set.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The cows weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t real hard, but she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s so intent on a cow,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mitchell, who was a finalist in the 2009 NCHA Futurity riding Cat A Rey for Barbara and Kix Brooks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Painted Springs Farm, which owns Peptos Sand Dancer, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The biggest thing is that she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s so smart on a cow. She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always with it &#8211; through the turns and the stops. She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always watching.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The only thing is that she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a little scared of the cattle,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he added. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Going into a big herd, I was concerned whether I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d be able to get her up there or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153But she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s gotten a whole lot better. When we first started training her, if you got fifteen feet within the cows behind you, she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d quit paying attention to the one in front of her and watch the seven behind her.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell and Barbara Brooks purchased Peptos Sand Dancer, by Peptoboonsmal, as a yearling at the NCHA Futurity Sales.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Barb and I really liked her mom,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mitchell. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They had (Peptos Sand Dancer) bid up to $25,000 and called it out because she had a little scar above her coronet band. The bidding went back to $20,000 and we ended up getting her for $22,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Every day that we work her, I think of that.
