LHR Smooth Jamie May added $80,618 to her bankroll today with a 225-point win in the Breeders Invitational Derby in Tulsa. Bet Hesa A Cat earned $46,860 as runnerup with 219.5 points.<\/p>\n

Ridden by Phil Hanson for by South Lazy H Ranch, LHR Smooth Jamie May held the top cumulative score of 440 points from the go-rounds (218 and 222) and drew first to work in the 23-horse finals.<\/p>\n

“She’s got so much eye appeal,” said Hanson of the Smooth As A Cat daughter. “And she tries to be good for you and tries to do it right.”<\/p>\n

This is the 4-year-old mare’s second championship win. She won the Bonanza Cutting in February, and placed third at Arbuckle Mountain and was a finalist (13th) in the NCHA Super Stakes. She has career earnings of $150,042.<\/p>\n

“She really didn’t have a shot for the Futurity,” said Hanson, who explained that LHR Smooth Jamie May came down with EPM, just a few weeks before the big event and he laid her off until 10 days before the Bonanza.\u00a0\u00a0

\nHanson purchased LH Smooth Jamie May as a 3-year-old from her trainer, Scott Johnston.<\/p>\n

Bet Hesa Cat was ridden by his trainer, Austin Shepard, for the Bet Hesa Cat Syndicate. The red roan son of High Brow Cat had previously placed third in the Tunica Futurity and fifth in the Augusta Futurity.<\/p>\n

Breeders Invitational Derby Non-Pro<\/strong>
\nDustin Adams scored 220 points to claim the non-pro championship on the Doctress Orders, the horse that he rode as non-pro reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity. The Dual Rey daughter, a non-pro finalist in three other major events in 2010, was bred by Adams out of Boonsmal Doctress, earner of over $210,000, who Adams rode to claim three non-pro championship titles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
