{"id":4266,"date":"2010-05-15T11:16:17","date_gmt":"2010-05-15T16:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=4266"},"modified":"2010-05-15T12:00:42","modified_gmt":"2010-05-15T17:00:42","slug":"super-saver-is-luckin-at-lucky-in-the-preakness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/?p=4266","title":{"rendered":"Super Saver is Lookin at Lucky in the Preakness"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4267\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4267\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4267\" title=\"supersaverCD_2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sallyharrison.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/supersaverCD_22.jpg\" alt=\"Super Saver in Kentucky Derby\" width=\"260\" height=\"227\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Super Saver in Kentucky Derby<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lookin at Lucky might get lucky with a jockey switch in the Preakness, but Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver is still the one to beat with Calvin Borel, winning rider in last year&#8217;s Preakness aboard the filly Rachel Alexandra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been really, really pleased with the way he\u2019s trained since the Derby,&#8221; said Todd Pletcher, who also noted that 5-2 morning line slight favorite Super Saver has maintained a healthy appetite, as well as his weight, since the Kentucky Derby.<\/p>\n<p>Pletcher said that he normally wouldn&#8217;t run a horse two weeks after its last start, but &#8220;if the Kentucky Derby winner bounces back, it&#8217;s worth a shot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s really come up to it so well that we would have had to take a hard look, even had he not won the Derby,\u201d he added. \u201cIt concerns me a little that if they go slow in this race, it\u2019s going to compromise his style a bit. All of his better races have been when he\u2019s (been) taken back, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re going for this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rider Calvin Borel plans on using different tactics with Super Saver in the Preakness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTomorrow we\u2019re coming in with a fresh horse and I love his chances,\u201d Borel said. &#8220;It\u2019s going to be a totally opposite race, I think. It won\u2019t have the speed like in the Derby. If somebody wants to go, I think I can let him go and lay right off of him. If they don\u2019t, we\u2019ll take it to them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think this colt is starting to peak at the right time and it\u2019s a big, big plus. He worked so good Monday morning, you wouldn\u2019t imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lookin at Lucky, trained by Bob Baffert and with Martin Garcia aboard for the first time, is the 3-1 second-favorite morning line pick; Paddy O&#8217;Prado is 9-2 for Dale Romans under Kent Desormeaux.<\/p>\n<p>Luckin at Lucky, the Kentucky Derby favorite, drew the unlucky #1 hole in the Derby, but has post position #7 today, inside Super Saver in the #8 hole.
