Hottish, a rapidy rising star among young cutting horse\nsires, was humanely euthanized on February 7, at the Springtown, Texas ranch of\nhis owners, Dustin and Deena Adams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of his death, Hottish ranked fourth only to\nMetallic Cat, Dual Rey, and High Brow Cat, among 2020\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leading sires. His three\nlifetime performing crops had also produced earners of over $3.3 million, for an\naverage of $31,709, including 2017 NCHA Futurity Open champion Dual Reyish LTE\n$383,364 and 2018 NCHA Open Horse of the Year and Super Stakes champion Cool N\nHot LTE $358,835.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An NCHA Futurity Open finalist under Lloyd Cox, Hottish became\na leading money earner at four, when he won the Breeders Invitational, the NCHA\nDerby, and the South Point Derby with Cox, as well as the NCHA Non-Pro Super\nStakes with Dustin Adams. He was retired from the show arena in 2014, following\nhis NCHA Classic Challenge 5\/6 Non-Pro win with Adams, and with career earnings\nof $286,109.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bred by Double Dove Ranch and sired by Spots Hot, Hottish\nwas out of Stylish Play Lena, cutting\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s #2 all-time leading dam of the earners\nof over $2 million. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We bought him from Gail Holmes as a yearling and Deena\npicked him out,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Adams, who sent Hottish to Lloyd Cox as an early\n3-year-old. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lloyd had always showed up to help me inside and out of the arena.\nI knew he was good with studs and rode the mother and knew the family, and it\nwas a good fit.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adams did not plan to ride Hottish in the Super Stakes, but\nwhen Cox had some tough luck in the Open second go-round, Adams purchased a\nslot in the Non-Pro. It was his first time to show Hottish and he scored 227\npoints to win the Non-Pro championship. Three months later, Cox and Hottish won\nthe NCHA Derby with 228 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He is so strong physically that he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hard to ride,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said\nAdams, following his Super Stakes win. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153For me it was just a matter of staying\nin the middle of him because his legs were going everywhere. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hard to sit\nin the middle of them, when they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re like that.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cox, who today is cutting\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all-time leading money earner,\nwith over $9.3 million, was also impressed by Hottish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s physical prowess.  \u00e2\u20ac\u0153He gets really deep in the ground and\nsometimes you think he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not going to be able to handle it, but the harder he\nstops, the better he gets. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not a worry, no matter how hard he stops.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2003, when Cox won the NCHA Classic Challenge riding\nStylish Play Lena for Gail Holmes, it was just his second win in Will Rogers Coliseum.\nHe had won the 1999 NCHA Derby on Smart Lookin Hi Brow, and before that was reserve\nchampion of the 2003 NCHA Super Stakes on TR Dual Rey LTE $291,111 and of the\n1996 NCHA Futurity on Royal Serena Belle LTE $124,146.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just one of those kind,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Cox, after his Classic\nChallenge win on Stylish Play Lena. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s her attitude and ability combined.\nShe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s physically gifted, but she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not hard to ride because she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s so smooth.\nAnd her intelligence is something to be admired.  You don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get those very often.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like his dam, Hottish was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153just one of those kind,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and his\nlegacy is assured for generations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
