Defending champion Steven Feiner of Aspen, Colorado, and Button Down Supercat, maintained his lead after the second round of Non-Pro competition in the Lucas Oil NCHA Super Stakes Classic in Fort Worth on Wednesday. He marked 215.5, which with his first-round score of 221, gave him a total of 436.5 points.<\/p>\n

Twenty-six horses marked 430.5 or better to advance to next Wednesday’s finals.<\/p>\n

Button Down Supercat, bred by Paul Dean’s Cross Timbers Cutting Horses, is a full sister to Lil Rattler, the mare Feiner rode to win the Super Stakes Classic in the last two years.<\/p>\n

She is by Dual Rey, out of Highbrow Supercat, an NCHA Futurity champion and $892,000 producer. Trainer Wesley Galyean won the Open Bonanza Classic on the mare this spring, as well as a reserve championship at the Breeders Invitational and a third in the NCHA Derby last year.<\/p>\n

Feiner has collected checks on the mare at the NCHA Futurity, Brazos Bash and Pacific Coast Derby.<\/p>\n

Cody Hedlund and Meteles Cat, by Metallic Cat, put together back-to-back 218s to the second highest cumulative score of 436.<\/p>\n

Three riders, including teenagers Madalyn Colgrove and Cade Shepard, advanced two horses to the finals.<\/p>\n

Kyle Manion of Aubrey, Texas, who shared the first round lead on A Smooth Dually with Feiner, will head to the limelight with A Smooth Dually and Some Smooth Cat, both by Smooth As A Cat.<\/p>\n

Madalyn Colgrove of Boligee, Alabama, advances with a 434.5 on One Catty Cupid (One Time Pepto) and a 430.5 on CD Stylish Girl (High Brow CD).<\/p>\n

Cade Shepard of Summerdale, Alabama, advances with a pair of 432s on Twistful Thinking (One Time Pepto) and Some Kinda Highbrow (High Brow CD).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
