On Friday, November 27, after nine days of first and second go-round trials, 76 horses qualified for the 2015 NCHA Futurity Open Semi-Finals, the final portal to the NCHA Futurity Open Finals. The Open Semi-Finals will be held on Friday, December 11; the Finals, with a winner’s purse of $200,000, begins at 6:00 pm, on Saturday, December 12.<\/p>\n

Lindy Burch, the longest-standing past NCHA Futurity Open champion among this year’s Open Semi-Finals contenders, won the prestigious event 35 years ago aboard Mis Royal Mahogany. Tarin Rice, co-champion of the 2012 Futurity on He Bea Cat, is the group’s latest winner, while Ronnie Rice, Tarin’s uncle, is the only 2015 Open Semi-Finalist with more than one NCHA Futurity Open championship win. Ronnie won the 1998 Futurity riding Dainty Playgirl; in 2001, he claimed the win on San Tule Freckles; and in 2012, he was co-champion riding CR Tuff Hearted Cat.<\/p>\n

Other past champions among 2015 Open Semi-Finalists include Gary Bellenfant, with Peptoboonsmal, in 1995; Paul Hansma in 1996, aboard Playboy McCrae; Tag Rice on Chiquita Pistol, in 2002; Wesley Galyean and Spots Hot, in 2004: Tommy Marvin with Highbrow Supercat, in 2005; Beau Galyean and Metallic Cat, in 2008; and Lloyd Cox with One Time Royalty, in 2010.<\/p>\n

Sixteen riders each qualified two horses for the Open Semi-Finals:<\/p>\n
