September 3rd, 2019

The final night of Quarter Horse racing’s three-day Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, on Sunday, September 1, at Ruidoso Downs, NM, produced the sale’s top-three sellers, led by the $400,000 purchase of Oro Crystal by Stan Sigman and Johnny Trotter. The final night’s average per horse sold was $55,420, a boost of seven percent over 2018. The total for the three-day sale, with a catalog offering of 389 head and 343 actual sales, finished up 6.5 percent with an average of $49,585 per horse sold, compared to last year’s $46,580.

Oro Crystal, a daughter of One Famous Eagle and Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Walk Thru Crystal, was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent. Walk Thru Crystal won the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity and the Grade 2 Kindergarten Futurity to earn her championship title. Corona Crystal, the dam of Walk Thru Crystal, was a stakes winner and is a Grade 2 stakes winning producer.

The sale’s second high-seller at $340,000 was Danjerous, a daughter of Favorite Cartel and Shez Jess Toxic. Danjerous was bought by the Arden Sue Floyd Family Trust and was consigned by Burns Ranch Inc., agent. Shez Jess Toxic is a “now” mare with her son Danjer the odds-on favorite winner of Sunday’s $200,000 First Down Dash at Ruidoso Downs. Danjer also won last year’s $100,000 All American Juvenile and was third in the Grade 1, $1,050,000 Texas Classic Futurity. Shez Jess Toxic was the winner of the Grade 2 AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship and placed in 11 stakes races.

The only other horse in the sale to pass the $300,000 mark was Lady La Belle, a daughter of One Famous Eagle and champion and world champion producer Apollitical Time. Lady La Belle was purchased by Scott Bryant from the Julianna Hawn Holt consignment. Apollitical Time was honored as Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and Broodmare of the Year.  During her career, she won four Grade 1 stakes and earned $914,242. Her son Apollitical Jess was named World Champion, Champion 3-Year-Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt and is now a leading sire.
