Natalie Rector, Rogersville, Mo., scored 220.5 points on Smooth Reyn, by Smooth As A Cat, to win the NCHA Transwest Western Nationals $35,000 Non-Pro championship on Thursday night. Garth Bullis, Garden City, Kan., was reserve champion with 218 points on Reyality Check, by Dual Rey. Jessica Floyd, Booker, Tex., and Sheri Kuehney, Elmore City, Okla., tied for third with 216 riding Smooth Smart N Sweet and Draggin A Hawk, respectively.
The $35,000 Non-Pro win was Natalie Rector’s second Western Finals performance on Thursday. Earlier in the day, she showed PS Maggie Poo, by Smart Royal Rey, to place tenth in the $50,000 Amateur Finals. Rector, the NCHA earner of $28,208, was also an NCHA Eastern Nationals finalist in 2017 aboard Cat Stevens LTE $92,674, by High Brow Cat.
Seven-year-old Smooth Reyn LTE $91,454 had a successful limited age event career in Amateur competition under Jennifer Rector, who showed the mare in 17 finals, including the 2017 NCHA Classic Challenge where she won the Amateur championship. The same year, the pair also placed third in the NCHA Eastern Nationals $35,000 Non-Pro Finals. Natalie Rector also showed Smooth Reyn as a finalist in the 2018 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur Finals.
Garth Bullis, the NCHA earner of $18,383, showed Reyality Check LTE $21,011 last year to place seventh in the NCHA Western Nationals $35,000 Non-Pro; the pair also placed fifth in the 2018 NCHA $35,000 Non-Pro Finals and tenth in the $35,000 Non-Pro World standings.
Jessica Floyd, the NCHA earner of $30,509, showed Smooth Smart N Sweet , when she placed in the 2017 and 2018 NCHA $15,000 Amateur World standings. Floyd was also a finalist on the mare in last year’s $15,000 Amateur NCHA Western Nationals and, last weekend, showed Foxie Hughes as an NCHA Western National Senior Youth finalist.
This year, Jessica has shown 4-year-old Smooth Lil Kit Kat, by Kit Kat Sugar, as a finalist in five major events, including as Amateur champion of the Bonanza Futurity.
Sheri Kuehny, the NCHA earner of $28,565, showed Draggin A Hawk LTE $105,255 last year to place in the All Age $35,000 and $15,000 Amateur divisions of The Non-Pro Cutting. Nine-year-old Draggin A Hawk was also a successful limited age event finalist in Open competition with Andy Sherrerd and in Amateur competition with Brent Kuehny.
