Carson Pearson wins $5,000 Novice-Non-Pro title

Carson Pearson, riding White Leg, by Dual Smart Rey, scored 219.5 points on Saturday to win the $5,000 Novice-Non-Pro championship. Glenn Barlow, Gillette, Wyo., claimed reserve with 218.5 points on Ferrarey, while Jim Short, Fulshear, Tex., and Duce Barlow, Gillette, Wyo., tied for third with 218 points riding Exackta and Mr Connerey, respectively.

Carson Pearson, Spearman, Tex., was a finalist riding Neverey, by Dual Rey, in last year’s $25,000 Novice Non-Pro and $5,000 Novice Non-Pro at the NCHA Denver Nationals, where his father, Mark Pearson, showed White Leg as reserve champion of the $5,000 Novice Non-Pro.

This was the first major win for Pearson, the NCHA earner of $38,870, who also placed as a finalist on White Leg in the $25,000 Novice-Non-Pro division on Saturday. White Leg LTE $28,769, by Dual Smart Rey, is owned by Carson’s grandfather, Dan Pearson.

In the past three and a half  years, Glenn Barlow, the NCHA earner of $417,316, has won 11 limited age event finals, in addition to numerous non-working finals. His largest single paycheck came as a 2012 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro finalist aboard Mr Connerey, who Duce Barlow, his son, showed to tie Jim Short for third in the $5,000 Novice-Non-Pro division.

Six-year-old Ferrarey, by Dual Rey, was bred by Barlow Livestock and carried Barlow to win the 2018 Breeders Invitational Amateur Unlimited championship, as well as the finals of the 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Non-Pro, Non-Pro Limited, and Amateur divisions.

Ferrarey and 9-year-old Mr Connerey are full siblings out of Cats Good Intentions LTE $106,229. Glenn Barlow also showed Mr. Connerey to win the 2015 Breeders Invitational Unlimited Amateur, as well as place third in the NCHA Classic Challenge Unlimited Amateur, and fourth in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur.

Duce Barlow, the NCHA earner of $31,761, showed Ferrarey earlier this year to place (8th) in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic.

Jim Short, the NCHA earner of $305,227, was a 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur finalist on Exackta, as well as a 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur finalist on Call Me What U Want. He also showed Exackta as a finalist this week in the Western Nationals $25,000 Novice Non-Pro division.

Five-year-old Exackta, by Boon A Little, is the NCHA earner of $39,150, and a full sister to Steve Earl LTE $71,384, shown by Short as 2013 Brazos Bash Unlimited Amateur champion.
