Ali Good and Cat Atat Cat scored 223 points on Saturday, the last day of 2017 NCHA Western Nationals competition, to win the Non-Pro championship. Gary Barker, Madill, Okla., claimed the reserve title with 219 points aboard Flash About, while Stacey Johnson, Duluth, Minn., placed third with 217 points on Short N Smooth.

Ali Good, Ringling, Okla., won the 2017 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Limited on Hottish-sired Sneakish, who she also showed as a finalist (17/23) in the Western Nationals Non-Pro finals. But it was 8-year-old Cat Atat Cat, by High Brow Cat, who carried Good to win this year’s NCHA Eastern Nationals $25,000 Novice Non-Pro championship, as well as the Eastern National Senior Youth division. Good, with NCHA career earnings of $59,186, earned her first winner’s trophy when she was 11, as NCHA Summer Spectacular Junior Youth champion aboard Cees Little Poo, by SR Instant Choice.

Cat Atat Cat, the NCHA earner of $94,318, was reserve champion of the 2015 NCHA Classic Challenge Open with Bill Riddle, Good’s grandfather, who also showed Cat Atat Cat’s dam, Miss Stylish Pepto, to earn $216,005.

For Gary Barker, the NCHA earner of $581,484, his win on 9-year-old Flash About LTE $241,011, by Purdy Boy Flash, in the 2015 NCHA Winter Showdown Unlimited Amateur counts as one of his biggest paydays. The next biggest would be his 2018 NCHA Super Stakes Classic Unlimited Amateur win on Smooth Nu Cat, by Smooth As A Cat. Barker showed both horses in the NCHA Western Nationals Non-Pro finals to finish second and eighth, respectively, and also showed Special Nu Cat as a finalist in the $25,000 Novice Non-Pro division finals.

Stacey Johnson, the NCHA earner of $65,906, also showed 10-year-old Short N Smooth LTE $296,625, by Smooth As A Cat, earlier in the week, as a finalist (7th) in the $35,000 Non-Pro finals of the NCHA Western Nationals, where she placed (9th) with MK CD High Roller, as well.
