CR Smart Boots and Ty Brown made their mark with 220.5 points on Friday to top the third day of NCHA Futurity Open go-round competition. Special No Boon, with Michael Cooper, earned 219 points, the day’s stand-alone second-highest score, while Smooth Hottie, shown by Josh Crumpler, scored 218.5 points, and Hott Heels, with Justin Chalmers, claimed 218 points, the fourth-highest score of the day.

CR Smart Boots, sired by Boon Too Suen and owned by Sarco Creek Ranch, Victoria, Tex., was purchased for $34,000 from Center Ranch, at the 2016 NCHA Futurity Sales. The sorrel gelding is half-brother to CR Tuff Lovin Cat $10,623, shown as a finalist in the 2017 Cotton Stakes Futurity by Boyd Rice. His dam, CR Smart Lil Kitty, an unshown daughter of High Brow Cat, is out of Smart Letha LTE $70,529, the dam of 11 NCHA money earners of $834,119, including Thomas E Hughes LTE $393,045.

Ty Brown, the NCHA earner of $110,027, won the 2010 NCHA Classic Challenge Open Limited on Smartys Doctor, and most recently was reserve champion of the NRCHA Cowhorse Classic Derby Open Limited on Sioux Me Please.

Special No Boon, also sired by Boon Too Suen, is owned by Rose Valley Ranch, Weatherford, Tex., and out of Special Nu Kitty $301,268, who scored a record 227 points in the first go-round of the 2007 NCHA Futurity Open under Clint Allen. Her dam, Nu I Wood LTE $405,302, shown exclusively by 2016 NCHA Futurity Open champion (Second Spot) rider Matt Gaines, is a leading producer of 11 NCHA money earners of $1,042,460.

Michael Cooper, who scored 218.5 points on Judgement Day, also owned by Rose Valley Ranch, on Thursday in the NCHA Futurity Open first go-round, is an NCHA Hall of Fame Rider and earner of $2,969,480. In 2009, he placed as reserve champion of the NCHA Futurity aboard Yadacat for Darol and Karen Rodrock.

Two of Special Nu Kitty’s offspring are consigned to the 2017 NCHA Futurity Sales by Wrigley Ranches, Weatherford, Tex. – Special Nu Style, in the Select Yearling Sale, and 4-year-old  Hes Real Special LTE $58,284, in the NCHA Futurity Cutting Horse Sale.

Smooth Hottie, owned by Durango Performance Horses, Woodward, Okla., and Hott Heels, owned by Jackie Davidson, Rockwall, Tex., are both offspring of freshman sire Hottish, by Spots Hot. Smooth Hottie is out of Smooth Sneakin LTE $73,716, by Smooth As A Cat, and Hott Heels is out of Miss Peptonstilettos LTE $84,809, by Peptoboonsmal.

Josh Crumpler, who shows Smooth Hottie, won the 2014 West Texas Futurity Open Limited and the 2016 Cotton Stakes Classic Open Limited on SDP Moms CD, as well as the 2015 Cotton Stakes Classic Open Limited on Woodys Baby. Crumpler is the NCHA earner of $68,913.

Justin Chalmers, who shows Hott Heels, is the NCHA earner of $46,204 and won the 2017 NCHA Derby Open Limited and the Abilene Spectacular Open Limited on HC Herd Boss for Eddie and Barbara Young.
