NRR Ollie Tom Cat, shown by Tracy Barton, and Dualin Smooth Legacy, under Kenny Platt, claimed the $25,000 Novice and $5,000 Novice Finals, respectively, on Saturday, June 24, at the NCHA Denver Nationals. Sired by High Brow Cat and owned and bred by North Ridge Ranch, Pierre, SD, NRR Ollie Tom Cat scored 222.5 points for his $25,000 Novice win, while Cats Out Of The Bag and Kenny Platt claimed reserve with 222 points, and Smooth Flow, ridden by Nate Miller, placed third with 219 points.

NRR Ollie Tom Cat began his 4-year-old career under Barton, as the 2016 Augusta Futurity Open reserve championship; coming into the NCHA Denver Nationals he had career earnings of $66,237. The 5-year-old black stallion, out of Uno Del Rey, is a full brother to NRR Cat King Cole $230,918 and Cats High Noon $141,740.

Cats Out Of The Bag, owned by Reed and Sheryl McClymont, Holdrege, Neb., made his career debut as a 4-year-old finalist in the 2013 Western States Fall Futurity under Platt. In 2015, the pair won the Idaho Futurity 5/6-Year-Old Open and placed fourth in the Western States Fall Futurity 5/6-Year-Old Open. The 8-year-old gelded son of High Brow Cat had career earnings of $31,629 prior to the 2017 NCHA Denver Nationals.

Five-year-old Smooth Flow, sired by Smooth As A Cat and owned by Robert Tregemba, Lawrence, Kan., was trained by Kenny Platt and made his debut as a 2015 NCHA Futurity Open semi-finalist with Platt and an Amateur and Unlimited Amateur finalist under Tregemba. In 2016, Smooth Flow and Platt placed seventh in the PCCHA Derby, while Tregemba and the sorrel gelding placed ninth in the Amateur Unlimited.

Dualin Smooth Legacy, owned by Robert Tregemba, scored 222 points to win the $5,000 Novice Finals, where Louis The Cat and Casey Crouch scored 219.5 points for reserve, and Lintons Cat, with Scott Amos placed third with 219 points.

Dualin Smooth Legacy claimed his first major check as a finalist in the 2017 Bonanza 4-Year-Old Open under Platt and had earnings of $8,794 coming into the NCHA Denver Nationals. The gelded son of Smooth As A Cat is a half-brother to Jerries Dual Legacy LTE $200,000. He was purchased at the 2014 Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales.

Louis The Cat LTE $99,403, an 8-eight-year-old gelded son of High Brow Cat, out of the leading producer Louella Again, and a full brother to Louellas Cat LTE $302,483 and Cattalou LTE $258,487, is owned by Amy Delange, Fort Gratiot, Mich. Crouch showed  Louis The Cat was an open finalist at this year’s NCHA Eastern Nationals, as well as reserve champion of the $5,000 Novice division of the same event. Tyler Delange and Louis The Cat also won the championship of the NCHA Eastern Nationals $35,000 Non-Pro.

Four-year-old Lintons Playcat, owned by Pam and George Shaeffer, Banner, Wyo., made his debut, under Amos, as reserve open champion of the 2016 Utah Futurity, where he also claimed second in the Open Gelding division. The gelded son of Auspicious Cat and Amos also placed third in the 2016 Western States Fall Futurity and won the Open Gelding division of the same event.
