John Carmichael of Dallas, Texas, marked 218 to win the $35,000 Non-Pro finals on Catmerize at the 6666 Ranch NCHA Western National Championships in Denver Wednesday.

Paige Morse of Ogden, Utah took the reserve title with a 217 on Exotic Ride.

Catmerize was bred by Three Trees Ranch by High Brow Cat out of Merada Missy, a full sister to three-time World Champion Meradas Little Sue.

The 9-year-old gelding won the Non-Pro Southern Classic in 2013 with previous owner Robert Fullwood. Carmichael rode him as a $35,000 Non-Pro and $15,000 Amateur finalist at least year’s NCHA Eastern National Championships.

Carmichael, who was also a $35,000 Non-Pro finalist on Nitros Real Deal at this year’s Eastern Nationals, was a $50,000 Amateur finalist on that horse at the Western Nationals. In limited age competition, he’s been an Unlimited Amateur finalist at the NCHA Super Stakes Classic (Miss Metallic Chick) and the Bonanza (Rockin Smart) this spring.

The reserve champion in the $35,000 Non-Pro, Paige Morse, of Ogden, Utah, rode Exotic Ride, a 5-year-old mare bred by Lannie Louise Mecom by Im Countin Checks out of Little Exotic Dancer.
